For de der da ellers måtte bruge Google…:

When your screen is white, (such as an empty word page, or the google page) your computer consumes 74 watts, and when its black it consumes only 59 watts. Mark Ontkush wrote an article about the energy saving that would be achieved if Google had a black screen, taking in account the huge number of page views, according to his calculations, 750 mega watts/hour per year would be saved. In a response to this article Google created a black version of its search engine, called Blackle, with the exact same functions as the white version, but with lower energy consumption.”

What google says about this project? Text copied from

How is Blackle saving energy?

Blackle was created by Heap Media to remind us all of the need to take small steps in our everyday lives to save energy.

Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. “Image displayed is primarily a function of the user’s color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen.” Roberson et al, 2002

In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. Since then there has been skepticism about the significance of the energy savings that can be achieved and the cost in terms of readability of black web pages.

We believe that there is value in the concept because even if the energy savings are small, they all add up. Secondly we feel that seeing Blackle every time we load our web browser reminds us that we need to keep taking small steps to save energy.

How can you help?

We encourage you to set Blackle as your home page<!–[if IE]> ( set )<![endif]–>. This way every time you load your Internet browser you will save a little bit of energy. Remember every bit counts! You will also be reminded about the need to save energy each time you see the Blackle page load.

Help us spread the word about Blackle by telling your friends and family to set it as their home page. If you have a blog then give us a mention. Or put the following text in your email signature: “ – Saving energy one search at a time”.

There are a lot of great web sites about saving energy and being more environmentally friendly. They are full of great tips covering the little things that we can all do to make a difference today. Try Blackling “energy saving tips” or visit a great blog dedicated to environmental awareness.

You will notice the cursor in the search bar is located at the middle…this is superb!!

Buddhadeb admits corruption in Left Front Govt

26 Jul

Today I have come across a news report published in The Hindu. The report says like this.

Kolkata, July. 26 (PTI): West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee today admitted that his Left Front government was not free from corruption and his ‘do-it-now’ slogan given a year ago could not overnight bring transparency in the administration. Bhattacharjee said in the assembly that his government was not free from corruption and the Centre was aware of it. But some degree of improvement had been achieved in the administration, he added.

Bhattacharjee said the Administrative Reforms Committee, comprising experts from IIM, IIT and ISI, set up to bring about transparency in the administration, was expected to submit its report soon.

He denied opposition allegations that the state government did not accept the Vigilance Commission’s recommendations and said most of them were implemented. Bhattacharjee said power was decentralized in the state from block, village to state level. He was replying to the debate on budgetary demands for grants for his Home Department in the House.

This is very interesting that today this could be a news! a story in India. This is amazing! everybody knows it. What will be happened now, when CM of West Bengal says, yes, my government is corrupted. Administrative Reforms? We need Political reforms in terms of administering the states. Sometimes, I think why not this whole society functionally belongs to all communities from society, but not ‘regular’ politicians. We need ‘issue’ based politicians today! Not ‘party’ based politicians.
